"Ambleside"For the past eleven or so years, the Orchestra has made a pilgrimage to Charlotte Mason College in Ambleside for a weekend at the beginning of the playing season. The professed idea is to "re-bond" the players (musically) after the Summer break and try and remember how to play together. In practice the weekend is also a good excuse for catching up with friends, doing some walking, rowing, shopping and, yes, beer drinking as well as playing the occasional note. Recently, because facilities at Charlotte Mason were unavailable, the weekend was held for a couple of years at Bangor University. This was known as "Ambleside at Bangor" to ensure that the traditions of bonding etc. were maintained as in previous years. The orchestra returned home (Ambleside returned to Ambleside) in 2003 and this will probably continue. The Ambleside weekend gets the season off to a good start and is another reason to become a member of the Orchestra. Ambleside 2006 took place from the evening of Friday 1st September to mid afternoon on Sunday 3rd September. The weekend beginning 7th September 2007 is provisionally booked for the next occurrence.
